Like something excavated from an archeological dig - and one which could well have occurred on planets other than our own - Argentinean artist Adrián Villar Rojas fuses possible futures with the distant past; commonplace materials such as clay or concrete only serve to underscore the spectacle of his sensationally monumental relics.
Turning his back squarely on prevailing post-minimal sculptural trends, Vilar Rojas' production evokes the titanic theatricality of Epstein's 'Rock Drill', the set designs of Giger and the fantastic impetus of the graphic novel.
For the moment at least, Villar Rojas' inscrutable pre- and post-historic hybrids seem to herald a new direction in contemporary sculpture.
