An artist who could be mistaken for a stand-up comic is, if not unique, certainly unusual; yet compellingly offbeat humour lies at the core of Bedwyr Williams' performance, installation and text-based practice.
Drawing on experiences and topics as diversely oddball as growing up with size 13 feet, life in remote Welsh villages, ostrich burgers or surviving a minibus crash, Williams' idiosyncratic subject matter is uncompromisingly surreal, yet, in the best tradition of eccentric humour, revealing and trenchantly critical.
An artist whose reputation has been slowly but steadily rising since the mid-noughties, a recent series of awards and international appearances look set to promote the pleasures of Bedwyr Williams' truly entertaining ouevre to far wider audiences.
